MEET THE TEAM

LAURA SEMPLE - FOUNDER

Hunger Digital was founded by Queensland-born Melbourne based music enthusiast Laura Semple. Laura has spent over a decade in the social media and digital marketing landscape, having completed her Masters of Communication thesis on The Importance of Posting on Social Media Outside a Release Cycle.

Outside of running Hunger Digital Laura also lectures Contemporary Marketing at Collarts (College of the Arts) and has previously taught at RMIT.

Growing up in Central Queensland Laura found a love for music at a young age, studying classical piano from the age of 6. Laura continued her studies of music later attending SAE (School of Audio Engineering) whilst completing her Bachelor of International Hotel Resort Management at Bond. Upon completing her Bachelors Laura found that her love of music outweighed her interest in Hotel Management and she relocated to Melbourne to pursue a career in PR. During this time she completed her Masters of Communication at RMIT whilst working for raraPR, interning for the booking agency Hub Artists and starting her pop-culture blog Semplesize. Semplesize quickly grew to have over 30 contributors Australia wide and covering some of the largest festivals and artists across the country.

In 2013 Laura began working for a social media agency, at time when Instagram stories were only a fantasy and TikTok didn’t exist. This was Laura’s first real introduction to how social media could be used as a powerful marketing tool. Since then, Laura has combined her in-depth knowledge of social media marketing and PR to aid in music artists and music focused businesses build connections between themselves and their audience - creating chatter that matters.

Today, in conjunction with running Hunger Digital Laura also manages local Melbourne artists Dirty Versachi and LOUV as well as photographer MJ Images.

JAIYA ARYAL - MARKETING & BOOKINGS ASSISTANT

Our freshest addition to the team, Jaiya (she/they) is a passionate all-rounder committed to supporting and spotlighting genre-bending talent. After relocating to Melbourne from the NSW South Coast in 2020, Jaiya has spent the last 4 years learning, working and falling in love with the creative arts. Initially assisting with friend’s creative projects for fun, Jaiya realised that their experience in and passion for event production was an essential resource needed to support the industry. This led to collaborating with diverse multidisciplinary artists to provide the necessary spaces to showcase their talents. After completing a diploma in Entertainment Management at Collarts, Jaiya joined the Hunger Digital team as a booking manager intern but was quickly promoted to our Bookings & Marketing Assistant.

As a social and outgoing person, Jaiya believes that the true magic of the entertainment industry lies in the relationships you build and is dedicated to fostering connections that resonate beyond the stage. By strengthening these relationships, artists can focus on their art knowing they’ll always have someone to reach out to for encouragement, support and guidance.

JACK LONG - DJ BOOKING AGENT

Tasked with handling the electronic DJ side of things, Jack is the newest addition to the Hunger Digital team. Jack is a proud supporter of his friends in the music industry and is stepping into this Booking Agent role to continue this support in a more official capacity.

Always one for having many balls in the air, outside of Hunger Digital Jack is a disability support worker, promoter, DJ, writer, and a waiter at Hope St Radio. Endued with endless curiosity, but also endless indecisiveness, Jack has studied a Diploma of Language (Japanese), Bachelor of Communication (Media), started a Graduate Certificate in Family and Domestic violence, but has now pivoted into a Diploma of Auslan at Melbourne Polytechnic. On top of this Jack has been hard at work on a number of extracurricular projects over the years.

In 2021 Jack started as a Music Editor at an online multimedia publication called Verve, a platform dedicated to showcasing emerging creatives and promoting their work. Notably, Jack is ½ of the Aywa collective, and event series that champions predominately SWANA creatives and DJ. He also runs a second event series called ‘Please RSVP’ which features UK Bass, garage, and popular edits.

With lots of experience corresponding with booking agents as a promoter, Jack has a well-rounded appreciation for how to traverse these administrative areas fairly and in a way that best supports the artists on his roster.

Often incorporating political elements when writing Verve articles. Jack sees dancefloors as important arenas that facilitate euphoric collective experiences that work in defiance of the kind of individualism that is peddled by Neo-liberalism. Jack admires the cooperative work that goes into putting on a club night, and says he feels buoyed by the prospect of filling any role in the process, be that promoter, booking agent, graphic designer, DJ, or bartender.
