Publicity Campaign: Magdalia - ‘Out Of Focus’
Dubbed “Melbourne’s rising star” by Forte Magazine, award-winning singer-songwriter Magdalia returns with ‘Out of Focus’, the latest single from her forthcoming debut EP. Known for her powerful vocals and candid storytelling, Magdalia steps into new territory here, blending dream-pop with a personal narrative that cuts deep.
Written with Olivia Regueira-Garcia from The Artist Studio Sydney, ‘Out of Focus’ channels the pop sensibilities of Ariana Grande, Griff, and Dua Lipa while remaining unmistakably Magdalia. The track dives into her experience as a late-diagnosed neurodivergent woman and the confusion of watching her father lose his sight as a child. “I wanted to write something that felt good to perform but still told a story that mattered to me,” Magdalia says. “Both experiences were tough and confusing, but they made me who I am. ‘Out of Focus’ is about finding clarity in the middle of all that.”
Production comes courtesy of Olivia Regueira-Garcia, with mixing and mastering by Liv Volpe at DownUp Studios. The live music video, filmed by MOUK Media at Bakehouse Studios as part of their Artist Residency program for disabled people, uses shifting focus and blur to echo the song’s themes. “Filming at Bakehouse was a dream for me. We played with effects to visually tie everything back to the story behind the song.”
Magdalia’s no-nonsense approach and quick wit have helped her build a rapidly growing audience on TikTok, where her unique voice and passion for storytelling stand out. Her blend of blunt humour, relatability, and a love for Formula 1 is matched by a stage presence that leaves a lasting impression, whether she’s performing at The Paris Cat Jazz Club or at major festivals like The Festival of Sails. With a Music Victoria Amplify Award nomination, the 2024 RSOM Songwriter of the Year title, and a Bakehouse Artist Residency under her belt, Magdalia’s star continues to rise.
Looking ahead, Magdalia is set to launch her debut EP later this year, supported by Cardinia Arts Grants. Fans can expect the release of the live video for ‘Out of Focus’ soon, followed by one more single and the full EP.
