Publicity Campaign: Haydn Lawson - ‘110’

Haydn Lawson returns with new single ‘110’ ahead of his debut album dropping in March.

Haydn started turning heads with the cinematic ‘Nullarbor’ – a guitar-clad love letter written for those he left behind in Perth. Capturing the moment Haydn packed up his life and drove across Australia in search of a new chapter in Melbourne. Followed up with the climactic ballad ‘Nail Biter’, Haydn Lawson does a full 180 as he returns with his most intense single yet, simply titled ‘110’.

Born from a night that marked the end of a long and manipulative relationship, ‘110’ is Haydn’s most explosive release to date. The track combines brutally honest lyricism, ripper guitar and relentless drums.  Building to a massive climax that refuses to be silenced. Haydn’s vocals evolve from humorously blunt to full-throttle catharsis, and he invites listeners to scream along and let out everything they’ve held inside!

‘110’ vividly retells what happened on that dreaded night, the very moment that gave Haydn the courage to overcome fear. After picking up his ex from a drunken night out, Haydn faced smashed dishes, a screaming match, and threats behind the wheel (while going 110KM/hour down the freeway!) The trauma of that night is channelled straight into the music, with a climactic brass section reminiscent of a wild-west standoff. At the song’s hook, “What you did ain’t a secret to anyone but you,” Haydn lays bare the reality of being mistreated by someone who refuses to take accountability.

“I just had to let go of all that resentment, all of that wasted time. I laugh at it now as I can’t understand how I let someone treat me like that. Sonically, I wanted the song to feel like you’re speeding down a highway, screaming to the world everything you never got to say. No longer suffering in silence.”

The single features guitar from Salvador Peralta, drums by Harry Millikan, and a brass section with Erin  Sherlock on trumpet, Callum Mintzis on trombone, and Phoebe Smithies on French horn. Mixed by Anton  Hagop and mastered by George Georgiadis, every detail hits just right.

Visually, ‘110’ portrays the story as if we are looking into a bad dream. Haydn appears in a blue racing suit and sunglasses, set against the backdrop of hundreds of destroyed vehicles at the car wreckers. The videos are surreal, staging a smoking crash in a dark and lonely scene in the Dandenong Ranges.

Haydn’s creative world is shaped by his roots in Perth’s queer and drag scenes, with a history in makeup artistry and design woven into every release. Each visual element, from cover art to video, is crafted by  Haydn and his partner. Every project is a true extension of his vision. ‘110’ marks the final chapter before  Haydn’s debut album drops in March.
